Opportunity
Did you know up to 70% of facility issues aren’t caught until they start affecting customers? Dollar General saw that as a chance to get ahead. By rolling out a proactive program to track the condition, functionality, and stock levels of iceboxes across thousands of stores, they’re now staying on top of these key assets before problems show up at the checkout.
Traditional Approach
-
Slow, inconsistent inspections delay issue detection
-
Store teams or vendors self-report, leading to missed or biased data
-
Limited visibility across locations makes it hard to spot trends
With iVueit
-
Fast, consistent inspections catch issues early
-
Geo-verified, unbiased reporting from trusted field users
-
Nationwide visibility enables proactive asset management at scale

The Struggle Is Real
Why Do Traditional Methods Make Asset Visibility So Hard?
- Widespread Footprint: With nearly 20,000 locations nationwide—and over 75% in rural towns of 20,000 people or fewer—Dollar General’s scale makes traditional, in‑person audits logistically complex.
- Varied Data Sources: Multiple reporting methods made it tough for teams and stakeholders to stay on the same page and get consistent or unbiased information.
- Limited Bandwidth: With internal teams juggling competing priorities, audits were tough to scale—making it hard to focus on high-impact tasks without decision paralysis.
“We’re excited to keep expanding programs with Dollar General across critical areas like landscaping, interior lighting, risk compliance, and now icebox asset management. They see the vision for how transparency can transform their operations, and they’re leading the way in challenging the status quo to find better ways to enhance the customer experience.”— Mike Popadak, CEO & Co-Founder, iVueit
Why It Matters
Broken or empty iceboxes don’t just look bad—they kill sales and frustrate customers. With thousands of locations, these small failures can quickly spiral out of control.
For multi-site operators, knowing the real-time status of critical assets isn’t optional. It’s the only way to keep stores ready, protect revenue, and avoid surprises—especially when demand spikes.
Dollar General used iVueit to get unbiased, up-to-date insights on every icebox across their network. They fixed problems before they spread. They kept vendors accountable. And they stayed ahead of peak season when it mattered most.
Execution
iVueit tapped into its 400,000+ user network to activate 500+ trusted Vuers for this project. From major cities to rural towns, every region was covered—fast. With each Vuer completing an average of 4-5 Vues, Dollar General received consistent, high-quality data across their entire store network without adding strain to internal teams.
Each Vuer completed an interactive survey in the iVueit app, recording detailed information on every icebox’s condition, stock levels, and overall presentation. Their reports included unit status (from excellent condition to missing iceboxes), inventory levels (from low to fully stocked), and comprehensive photos documenting all sides of each icebox, interior contents, store frontage, and any visible pricing or branding signage.
- Asset data collected by the Vuer Network:
- Comprehensive photos of the store building & icebox
- Number of iceboxes/chess at the store
- Exact location of each icebox on-site
- Exterior condition (damage, rust, overall appearance)
- Working condition (cold, stocked, or out of order)
- Description of any non-working issues reported by staff
- Presence of Dollar General yellow pricing signage on icebox
- Stock levels inside the icebox (full, low, empty)
- Additional comments from on-site observations

Quality Assurance
Every photo and data point is checked against Dollar General’s standards by iVueit’s quality team. Reports aren’t released until everything’s verified—ensuring 100% accurate, reliable audits. Real-time escalation alerts in the client portal let you focus on priority issues first, with all the information you need to act confidently and avoid costly (and absolutely unnecessary) rework.
Armed with these real-time metrics, Dollar General gained a clear view of each site’s ice-box health, stock trends, and vendor performance scores—empowering them to prioritize the lowest-scoring assets for maintenance, optimize restocking schedules at under-served locations, and partner with vendors on targeted quality improvements.
